One to One Support Services deliver
courses ranging from in-house sensory impairment awareness to advanced language
professional courses that are recognised by the certification body. (CACDP). Our
aim is to raise awareness of dual sensory impairment, Deaf blind. As well
as impart communication skills to carers, workers and establishments that
provide services to people having sensory impairments, complex needs, disabilities or specialist
communication.
One to One Support Services will increase your skill base, enabling you to
communicate efficiently and effectively with people.
We are specialists in dual sensory impairment.
We understand congenital and acquired sight and hearing loss.
Our own courses are available for you to attend in the Midlands area. Our flexibility also means that presentations can be delivered your establishment saving money and allowing you to maintain your level of cover for staffing ratios. We also deliver tailor made courses to suit unique training requirements.

One to One Support Services Courses

Deafblind Awareness ˝ Day or 1 Day (Max 16 People) Who is the course for? This course is aimed at those working with or supporting people with sensory impairments or as a first stage awareness into dual sensory impairment. Content. Areas of sensory impairment, How do we communicate? Communication exercises, methods and systems that are used with sensory impaired people. Environmental factors for communication.
Deafblind Support Worker Course – Dual Sensory Impairment , Communication Tactics and Safe Guiding Methods 2 Days (Max 16 People) Who is the course for? This course is for those working regularly with or supporting people with acquired sensory impairments. Basic knowledge of Dual Sensory Impairment would be beneficial. Content. Types of sensory impairment, Multiple Systems of communication. Communication exercises, methods that are used with sensory impaired people. Environmental factors for communication. Also practical skills of safe guiding and mobility support.
Communication Awareness 1 day or 1/2 Day Session (Max 16 People) Who is the course for? This course is aimed at anyone working in a supporting / caring role as an initial course / session around the different communication methods that can be used. (Especially when speech and written text become difficult for communicating.) Content. Understanding how we communicate. Communication exercises, methods and systems that are used with people who are losing their hearing, sight or both. Also covered are the environmental factors for enabling efficient communication. Useful aids or adaptations.
Supporting People in a Hospital / Health Care Setting – Communication and Sensory Impairment 1/2 Day session (Max 16 People) Who is the course for? This course is for health care staff working in a supporting / caring role as an initial course / session around the different communication methods that may be used. Content. Communication, methods and systems that are used with people when speech and written text become difficult such as when a patient’s illness means normal communication is no longer efficient. Environmental factors for communication. Elements of communication for hospital stays, planning care and treatment, the right information, communicating, what when and HOW. Best practice guidelines, who can help? Being prepared.
Complex Communication Needs and Systems 1 Day (Max 16 People) Who is the course for? This course is specialised for those working with people who have complex communication needs or systems. People who are looking to widen their knowledge base of systems of communication will find this course will enhance their current skills. Content. Communication systems used by people who are congenitally deafblind or who have multiple disabilities. Environmental factors for communication. Communication methods covered; Moon, Objects of reference, personal objects of reference, sign systems, calendar systems, tactile, pictorial, symbols, adapted personal methods and others.

Certificates can be obtained by passing the units in each course listed above. Units for each course can be taken in any order and Candidates may attended the courses but choose not to take the exams. Qualification status would then not be awarded.
